The Chibcha culture flourished in the mid-16th century in the fertile highlands around Bogota, the capital of Colombia in South America. Although the full picture is unclear due to insufficient archaeological surveys, Spanish records describe the culture being divided into several small nations, with large fenced villages, fertile farmland, worship of the sun god and hero gods, severe punishments, slavery, child sacrifices, and gold and emerald crafts. The organization of the nation is thought to have shown a power structure reminiscent of the early days of the Inca.

南アメリカ，コロンビアの首都ボゴタ周辺の肥沃な高原地帯に，16世紀中ごろに栄えたチブチャChibcha族の文化。考古学的な調査が十分でなくその全貌はわからないが，スペイン人の記録には，いくつかの小国家に分かれていたこと，柵囲いの大きい村落，豊かな耕地，太陽神や英雄神の信仰，きびしい刑罰，奴隷，小児のいけにえ，金やエメラルドの細工物などについて記されている。その国家組織はインカ成立の初期を思わせる権力構造を示していたとみられている。
