Longan - Longan

An evergreen tall tree of the Sapindaceae family, said to be native to India or China. It can reach a height of over 10 meters, and its leaves are compound, consisting of lanceolate leaflets. The fruit is spherical and yellowish brown, with fine wart-like protrusions on its surface. It contains a single seed, surrounded by juicy white flesh. The fruit is eaten raw or dried. インドあるいは中国原産といわれるムクロジ科の常緑高木。高さ十数mに達し，葉は披針形の小葉からなる複葉。果実は球形で黄褐色を呈し，表面には細かい疣(いぼ)状突起を有する。種子は１個で，白色多汁の果肉で包まれる。果実を生食しまたは乾果として賞味する。乾燥した果肉は竜眼肉といい，食用，薬用とする。
