Chick tester

Japanese: チックテスター（英語表記）chick tester

An optical machine used to sex poultry chicks. A thin glass tube attached to the tip of the machine is inserted through the chick's anus into the rectum, and the tube passes through the intestinal wall to observe the chick's testes or ovaries at 3x magnification to determine their sex. It consists of two parts, a switchboard and a main body, and weighs about 2500g. The length and thickness of the glass tube are made to suit the shape of the rectum of various poultry chicks. The chicken version is 27mm long and 4mm thick. It was invented by Takeo Kizawa of Japan in 1950, and is also used overseas. A skilled sexing technician has achieved a 100% sexing rate of 100 chicks in 4 minutes 27 seconds.

家禽の雛の雌雄鑑別に用いる光学機械。機械の先端についている細長いガラス管を雛の肛門から直腸に挿入し，腸壁を通して，雛の精巣または卵巣を3倍に拡大して観察し，雌雄を鑑別する装置。配電盤と本体の2部から成り，重さ約 2500g，ガラス管の長さと太さは各種家禽の雛の直腸の形状に合せてつくられる。鶏用は長さ 27mm，太さ 4mm。 1950年日本の木沢武夫が発明したもので，海外にも普及しており，優秀な鑑別技術者は，100羽 100%の鑑別率で4分 27秒の記録を出している。
