…He was born to a poor craftsman in Padua. In his mid-teens, he moved to the neighboring city of Vicenza to train as a stonemason. Eventually, his talent for architecture was discovered by the famous Vicenza-born aristocrat and writer Gian Giorgio Trissino, who gave him the name Palladio. He gained instant fame after renovating the public building in the center of Vicenza, Palazzo della Ragione (commonly known as the Basilica), into a classical design (after 1549). He subsequently produced many excellent works through his interactions with many aristocrats and intellectuals in the Veneto region, centered around Vicenza. …
