Born on May 8, 1772. The third son of Aoyama Tadataka. Succeeding his elder brother Tadatsugu, he became the 4th head of the Aoyama clan, lord of the Tanba Sasayama Domain (Hyogo Prefecture) in 1785. He served as the Magistrate of Temples and Shrines, Wakadoshiyori, Osaka Castle Deputy, and Kyoto Shoshidai, and in 1812 he became a Senior Councillor. He was involved in the handling of the Sonno Incident and the Soma Daisaku Incident. He passed away on March 20, 1832. He was 69 years old.
