Dangyokei

This valley is created by the muddy river, a tributary of the Gonokawa River, located in Onan Town, Ochi District, in central Shimane Prefecture. It is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty and part of the Dangyokei Kannon Falls Prefectural Natural Park. It was created by erosion and rejuvenation of the Gonokawa River, and was given the name Dangyokei Kannon Falls because the rapids prevent fish from migrating upstream. The rhyolite bedrock continues for about four kilometers. Both banks are cliffs with upright joints several hundred meters high, dotted with waterfalls and pools, and the rapids flow between them in rapids.

島根県中央部、邑智(おおち)郡邑南(おおなん)町にある江の川(ごうのかわ)支流濁(にごり)川のつくる渓谷。国指定名勝で断魚渓観音(かんのん)滝県立自然公園の一部。江の川の侵食回春によってつくられたもので、急流のため魚類の遡上(そじょう)が阻止されるので断魚の名がある。約4キロメートルにわたって流紋岩の岩床が続く。両岸は数百メートルの直立節理の断崖(だんがい)で、滝と淵(ふち)が散在し、その間を急流が早瀬となって流れる。
