A sub-Neolithic (Chalcolithic) culture from the middle of the 3rd millennium BC to the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC found in the Minusinsk and Altai regions of southern Siberia, Russia. It was named after a burial tomb on Mount Afanas'eva near the village of Bateni in the Khakass Autonomous Oblast. The excavated human bones belong to the Paleo-Europeid type. Settlement sites and burial tombs with stone circles are known, but the burial tombs are replaced by tumulus tombs with stone circles. There are one or more bodies, but double bodies are rare. The people were livestock herders and there is also the possibility of agriculture. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
