This is a clan history of the Tsu Domain (Todo clan) in Ise Province (Mie Prefecture). It was written by Todo Takafumi (1720-84) and edited by Takaka. Takafumi was a descendant of Takakiyo, the younger brother of Takatora, the first Todo lord, and was a chief retainer of the domain, and Takaka was his nephew. It contains a preface written in 1748 (Kan'en 1). It is said to have originally consisted of 70 volumes, but only 32 volumes remain. It contains biographies of the first three domain lords and senior vassals, laws, agricultural policies, city administration, military systems, etc., written in classical Chinese, but it also quotes a large number of historical documents from the time in their original texts, and is highly regarded as a source of political and economic history in the early modern period. One published version is "Soukokushi" (1941, Ueno Town Education Association). [Akira Takagi] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
