Passerine, Flycatcher family. The specific name komadori was given by the original author, Conrad J. Temminck, by mistake, because he misnamed the Japanese robin and the Japanese bush robin, and the Japanese bush robin is now called akahige . Total length 14cm. The male is black from the forehead to the chest, and the back is reddish brown. The abdomen is white, and there are black spots on the sides. The female lacks the black parts of the male, and the chest is gray-brown and white mottled. It sings with a beautiful voice (→ chirping). It is a species endemic to Japan, living on Yakushima, Tanegashima, the Danjo-gunto Islands, and the Ryukyu Islands, and there are three subspecies distributed in different habitats. However, there is only one specimen of the Japanese bush robin , E. k. subrufus , collected on Yonaguni Island, and there has been no record of its existence for over 50 years. It lives in lush evergreen broadleaf forests. It was designated a national natural monument in 1970.

スズメ目ヒタキ科。種小名の komadori は原記載者のコンラート・J.テミンクがコマドリとアカヒゲをまちがって命名したもので，コマドリの種小名が akahige となっている。全長 14cm。雄は額から胸にかけて黒く，背面は赤褐色。腹部は白色で脇に黒色斑がある。雌は雄の黒色部を欠き，胸は灰褐色と白色のまだら模様。美しい声でさえずる（→さえずり）。屋久島，種子島，男女群島，琉球諸島に生息する日本固有種で 3亜種が生息地を分けて分布しているが，ウスアカヒゲ E. k. subrufus は与那国島で採集された 1羽の標本があるだけで，過去 50年以上生息の記録がない。よく茂った常緑広葉樹林に生息する。1970年国の天然記念物に指定。
