A scholar from the mid-late Qing Dynasty in China. His courtesy name was Ruoying and his title was Maotang. He was from Jintan County, Jiangsu Province. In 1760 (the 25th year of the Qianlong era), he was appointed as a juren (regent) and became the prefect of Wushan County, Sichuan Province, but soon resigned to devote himself to his studies. When he went to the capital for the first time, he met Dai Zhen and accepted him as his disciple. He composed the "Shijing Yunpu" and "Qunjing Yunpu," and following on from Gu Yanwu's ten ancient rhymes and Jiang Yong's thirteen, he divided the Shijing Yunpu into three parts, Zhi, Shi, and Zhi, and created a seventeen-part theory. In 1773, Dai Zhen, who did not approve of his work at first, sent him a letter of high praise, which bore fruit in the form of the Six Scripts Yinyun Table, which he published in 1815 as part of his lifelong endeavor to compile the 30-volume Shuowen Annotated Texts. The fruits of his research into ancient rhymes can be seen in his works such as Annotated Different Commentaries on Ancient Texts, Annotated Texts on Mao's Poetry, Annotated Texts on the Book of Songs, and Annotated Texts on the Book of Songs. One of his collections is the Jingyun Lou Anthology. [Mitsuo Kondo July 20, 2018] [Reference items] | | |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
