American inventor and entrepreneur. Born in New York. He established his foothold with the invention of air brakes for railroads in 1867, and expanded into European countries by manufacturing railroad signals. He turned his attention to electrical technology and became a pioneer in AC power transmission. He succeeded in developing the AC transformer, and founded the Westinghouse Electric Company in 1886. He made a name for himself by establishing over 100 companies in Japan and overseas, making a name for himself in the manufacture of generators, transformers, and electric motors.
