Short-term insurance/long-term insurance

Japanese: 短期保険･長期保険 - たんきほけんちょうきほけん

A classification of private insurance and social insurance based on the length of the insurance period. In the case of private insurance, depending on the length of the contract period, property insurance and life insurance (especially group life insurance) with a relatively short contract period can be considered short-term insurance, while life insurance and pension insurance with a long contract period can be considered long-term insurance. In the case of social insurance, since continued membership is compulsory, the duration of the benefit event, and therefore the length of the benefit period, should be the primary criterion. Pension insurance, which provides long-term benefits such as old-age benefits, survivors' benefits, and disability benefits, is long-term insurance, while medical insurance and unemployment insurance, which provide short-term benefits such as sickness benefits, maternity benefits, unemployment benefits, and medical care, are short-term insurance.

私保険と社会保険を保険期間の長短によって区分したもの。私保険の場合には，契約期間の長短によって，比較的短期の契約期間による損害保険や生命保険(とくに団体生命保険)を短期保険，契約期間が長期にわたる生命保険や年金保険を長期保険とすることができる。社会保険の場合には強制的に継続して加入するので，給付事由の継続期間，したがって給付期間の長短を第一の基準にとるべきであろう。長期給付である老齢給付，遺族給付，障害給付を行う年金保険が長期保険，短期給付である疾病給付，出産給付，失業給付，医療を実施する医療保険と失業保険は短期保険である。
