Mitsunaka Ikeda

Japanese: 池田光仲 - いけだ・みつなか
Mitsunaka Ikeda
Year of death: 7th July 6th Genroku (8th August 1693)
Year of birth: June 18, 1630 (July 27, 1630)
Lord of Tottori Domain in the early Edo period. His childhood name was Katsugoro, and he later became known as Sagami no Kami. He was the eldest son of Ikeda Tadao, the lord of Bizen Okayama Domain, and his mother was the eldest daughter of Hachisuka Shigenobu, the lord of Awa Tokushima Domain. He inherited his father's estates at the age of three on June 18, 1632 (Kan'ei 9), but because he was still young, his fief was transferred to 320,000 koku in both Inaba and Hoki Provinces, and he lived in Tottori Castle. The shogunate ordered his uncle Ikeda Terusumi and senior retainers Arao Takumi and Shima to decide on national affairs in consultation with each other. He also frequently received advice from his cousin Ikeda Mitsumasa, the lord of Okayama Domain, and built the foundations of the Tottori Domain's administration under Mitsunaka, promoting various policies such as the development of Tottori City, flood control, afforestation, and new rice field development. He retired in 1685 (Jokyo 2) and died in Tottori Castle. <References> Eikichi Kajikawa, "Mr. Mitsunaka Ikeda" (Owned by Tottori Prefectural Library)
