An interface standard for connecting hard disks, etc., standardized by ANSI. It started with ATA-1, which standardized IDE, and evolved into ATA-2, which standardized the hard disk-related standard of Enhanced IDE, ATA-3, which extended ATA-2, and ATA/ATAPI-4, which incorporated ATAPI and Ultra ATA. Currently, ATA/ATAPI-5 (ATA/66) with a transfer speed of 66MB/sec and ATA/ATAPI-6 (ATA/100) with a transfer speed of 100MB/sec have appeared.
