Axon reflex

Japanese: 軸索反射 - じくさくはんしゃ（英語表記）axon reflex

Also called pseudoreflex. In the peripheral nervous system, a single thin afferent axon (nerve fiber) may branch into several branches at the peripheral side. In such a case, when a specific peripheral site is strongly stimulated to excite a branch of the afferent axon, the excitation travels retrograde through other axon branches of the same nerve, inducing a certain reaction at the distal end of the axon branch. This apparent reflex-like reaction is called an axon reflex. For example, when a painful stimulus is applied to a specific part of the skin, the skin at the stimulated site temporarily turns pale, then red.

偽反射pseudoreflexともいう。末梢神経系において1本の細い求心性神経軸索(神経繊維のこと)が，末梢側で幾本かの枝に分枝している場合がある。その場合，特定の末梢部位を強く刺激して求心性神経軸索の分枝を興奮させると，その興奮が同一の神経の他の軸索分枝を逆行して伝わり，その軸索分枝の末梢側の末端にある種の反応を誘発する。見かけ上，反射のようなこの反応を軸索反射と呼ぶ。たとえば，皮膚の特定の部分に痛み刺激を加えると，刺激部位の皮膚は一過性に蒼白になり，次いで発赤が生じる。
