A general term for birds of the genus Paradoxornis in the family Muscicapidae, subfamily Paradoxoninae, order Passeriformes, or one of these species. This genus consists of about 17 species. Most species are 10-20 cm in length. Many have a brownish overall feather color. They resemble long-tailed tits in appearance, with a round body and a long tail. They have a short, vertically flat beak. They are found mainly in the Himalayas, southern China, and Southeast Asia. スズメ目ヒタキ科チメドリ亜科ダルマエナガ属Paradoxornisの鳥の総称,またはそのうちの1種を指す。この属は約17種よりなる。大部分の種が全長10~20cm。多くは全体に褐色系のじみな羽色をしている。外観はエナガ類に似ており,丸っこい体に長い尾がついている。くちばしが短く,縦に平たいのが特徴。主としてヒマラヤから中国南部や東南アジアにかけて分布する。開けた林や低木林,竹やぶなどにすみ,茂みの間を巧みに移り渡りながら,昆虫や小型の種子などをとって食べる。
