Japanese: フカノキ(英語表記)Schefflera octophylla Harms
Schefflera octophylla Harms
It is an evergreen small tree of the Araliaceae family, reaching a height of 10 m, with alternate palmate compound leaves consisting of 6 to 8 leaflets. In late autumn, it produces many pale green flowers in an umbel on a cone-shaped inflorescence at the terminal stem. It grows wild from southern Kyushu to Okinawa, and from Taiwan to southern mainland China. The Schefflera genus has about 150 species, mainly found in tropical Asia, and is a type of woody plant ranging from tall trees to shrubs, or epiphytic semi-creeping plants, some of which are cultivated as ornamental plants. Of these, S. arboricola Hayata, found in Taiwan and southern China, is relatively cold-resistant and has climbing stems.
