The question of existence in general must be preceded by the question of human existence. Heidegger calls the ontology that answers this question "foundational ontology." The ultimate starting point of this metaphysics of human Dasein is not an abstract problem setting, but the concrete question of "what is man?" It is distinguished from philosophical anthropology by its foundation in ontology.
