Japanese: トビア（英語表記）Tobias

A character from the Old Testament apocryphal Book of Tobit. A Ninevite who travels to Rages to collect a loan from his father Tobit, accompanied by Azariah, who is actually the angel Raphael. Tobias obtains fish gall from the Tigris River and continues his journey with it. On the way, he marries Sarah, the daughter of his relative Raguel, and that night, with the advice of Raphael, he drives away the evil spirit that was tormenting Sarah. Tobias returns to Nineveh with the gold, and his father's eyes are healed by the fish's innards. In Western art, scenes such as "Tobias and Tobit's Separation," "Tobias and Raphael's Journey," "Tobias' Marriage," and "Tobias' Return" are depicted, and the travel scenes are particularly popular.

旧約聖書外典《トビト書》中の人物。ニネベの人で，父トビトの貸金を取りたてる目的でラゲスにおもむくが，彼に同行したアザリヤは実は天使ラファエルであった。トビアはティグリス川で魚の胆汁を得，それをたずさえて旅を続ける。途中，親族ラグエルの娘サラと結婚し，その夜ラファエルの助言によって，サラを苦しめていた悪霊を退散させた。トビアは金を持ってニネベに戻り，魚の内臓によって父の眼もいやされる。西洋美術では〈トビアとトビトの別れ〉〈トビアとラファエルの旅〉〈トビアの結婚〉〈トビアの帰還〉などの場面が描かれ，なかでも旅の場面は好んでとりあげられた。
