…the Greek name of the center of ancient Egyptian sun god worship in the northeastern suburbs of Cairo. Its ancient Egyptian name was Iunu, and it corresponds to the Biblical place name On. The Heliopolitan theology, which regarded the sun god (Atum and Ra) as the creator god of the universe, also incorporated the Osiris myth and had a profound influence on Egyptian religious thought. The other great gods claimed the authority of the sun god and creator god by syncretizing with Ra, and it was also the source of Akhenaten's worship of the Aten.
