A former town in Nakakoma County in central Yamanashi Prefecture. It is located between the Fuefuki River and the Kamanashi River in the Kofu Basin. It was once a farming village near Kofu City, but in recent years has been undergoing urbanization. Vegetable and rice cultivation is carried out. Precision industry companies have also set up shop here. The Minobu Line runs through the town. In February 2006, it was incorporated as a city by merging with Toyotomi Village, Higashiyatsushiro County, and Tamaho Town, Nakakoma County, to form Chuo City. Area: 10.09 km2 . 山梨県中部,中巨摩(なかこま)郡の旧町。甲府盆地の笛吹川と釜無(かまなし)川の間にある。甲府市近郊の農村であったが近年は都市化が進む。野菜栽培,米作などを行う。精密工業などの企業も進出している。身延(みのぶ)線が通じる。2006年2月,東八代郡豊富村,中巨摩郡玉穂町と合併し市制,中央市となる。10.09km2。1万6428人(2003)。
