Azumajishi (Eastern Lion)

Japanese: 東獅子(吾妻獅子) - あずまじし

Jiuta. Composed by Minezaki Koto. Produced in 1797 (Kansei 9). A honchoshi tegoto piece, with Ishikawa Koto playing the shamisen replacement and Urazaki Kengyo playing the koto in Kyoto. The song begins with Ariwara no Narihira's journey east from "The Tales of Ise," and the lyrics include a lion dance at the farewell of Kinuginu in Yoshiwara. The highlight is the long tegoto, which includes the kinutaji and the second and third tegoto parts of "Sandanjishi." [Kubota Toshiko]

地歌。峰崎勾当作曲。1797年(寛政9)作。本調子手事（てごと）物で，三弦替手は石川勾当，京都で行われている箏は浦崎検校の手付け。《伊勢物語》在原業平の東下りを歌い出しとし，吉原での後朝（きぬぎぬ）の別れに獅子舞を舞うといった詞章。長い手事が聞き所で，砧地や，《三段獅子》の手事の二段，三段を打ち合わせたりする。【久保田敏子】
