Generally speaking, it means that a creditor takes over a large number of accounts receivable from a debtor's customers as collateral. However, in practice, the content of this factoring business seems to be quite diverse. Factoring as it should be is said to be when a factoring business operator provides funds to a customer by purchasing the current and future accounts receivable held by the customer in a lump sum without any right of redemption against the customer, and at the same time provides information on the business and economic problems the customer faces, and manages and collects the purchased accounts receivable.

一般的には、債務者の顧客に対する多数債権を、担保のために債権者が譲り受けることをいう。しかし、実際上では、このファクタリング業務の内容は多岐にわたっているようである。本来あるべき姿のファクタリングは、ファクタリング業務を営む者が、その顧客の有する現在および将来の売掛債権を、顧客に対する償還請求権なしで一括して買い取ることにより、顧客に資金を供与し、それに伴って、顧客の直面する経営経済上の諸問題についての情報を提供し、買い取った売掛債権の管理・回収をすることであるとされている。
