The Governor of Kii Province

Japanese: 紀伊国造 - きのくにのみやつこ
The Governor of Kii Province
A local official in northern Kii Province in the pre-Taika period. He was appointed hereditarily by the Ki Nao clan, a powerful clan based in Nagusa County. The Ki Nao clan was a local clan that developed the lower Kii River basin, worshipped both Hinokuma and Kunikakasu shrines, and had influence in both religious and political affairs. According to the Kojiki and the Kii kuni no miyatsuko keizu, it began in the reign of Emperor Jimmu, when his ancestor Amenonene no Mikoto was appointed kuni no miyatsuko of the province. The Kojiki and Nihon Shoki also list the names of Uzuhiko (Kogenki), Arakatoben (Sujinki), Toyomi (Jingo-ki), and Oshikatsu (Bidatsu-ki) as kuni no miyatsuko or their ancestors.
