A leader of the Youth (Pemuda) in the 1945 Indonesian Revolution, and later a member of the Communist Party's Politburo. Born to an aristocratic family in West Java, he joined the left-wing nationalist group Gerindo in 1937. During the Japanese occupation in 1944, he became head of the Independent Indonesia Academy, established by the Jakarta Naval Attaché Office, and emerged as a youth leader. After independence was declared in August 1945, he became a leader of the Indonesian Youth Union, then the Socialist Youth Union (Pesindo), and served in the Sjahrir and Sarifuddin cabinets from 1946 to 1947. When Muso returned to Indonesia in 1948 and reorganized the Communist Party, he joined the Politburo accordingly, and after the Madiun Incident (1948), he was also in charge of building the People's Youth Union as a member of the Politburo when the Communist Party was rebuilt in 1950.

インドネシア1945年革命の青年(プムダ)指導者で，のち共産党政治局員。西ジャワの貴族出身で，1937年左派民族主義団体ゲリンドに入党。日本軍占領期の44年，ジャカルタ海軍武官府設立の独立インドネシア塾塾長に就任し，青年指導者として頭角を現した。45年8月の独立宣言以降，インドネシア青年団，次いで社会主義青年団(プシンド)の指導者となり，46‐47年シャフリル内閣，シャリフディン内閣に入閣した。48年ムソが帰国して共産党の再編を行うと，これに応じて政治局に入り，またマディウン事件(1948)後，50年の共産党再建においても政治局員として人民青年団の建設を担当した。
