A publicity officer at a theater in the Edo period. On the day before the opening or during the changeover, they stood on a platform at the entrance to the theater, dressed in flashy costumes, in pairs, holding up fans, reciting the title and role of the kyogen, and using vocal tones to hype up the performance. 江戸時代の劇場の宣伝係。初日前や替り目に,劇場前の木戸口の台の上に立ち,派手な衣装で,2人ぐらいずつ組んで,扇をかざし,狂言名題,役割を読み立て,声色 (こわいろ) を使って景気をあおった。明治5 (1872) 年に廃止された。
