Fiction. The original meaning of the English word is "to create." Generally, it means to make something that is not true appear as if it were true, but as a literary term, fiction is a general term for stories that depict imaginary events imaginatively, especially novels written in prose, and is traditionally distinguished from poetry and drama, which also contain many imaginative elements. In contrast, stories of real events that are not fiction, such as history, biography, and reportage, are called non-fiction.
