…Abu Nuwas was a poet of genius who was not influenced by the Badi and wrote many masterpieces on a variety of subjects, especially on wine, hunting, satire, and odes. While these poets expressed the rich Persian social life through poetry, in the 9th century, Abū Tammām (804-843), Ibn al-Rūmī (836-896), al-Buḥtrī (821-897), and others appeared, who had acquired Greek culture and mastered introspective poetry. Ibn al-Rūmī created the theoretical consistency of the Qasida as a whole, and Abū Tammam added powerful Jahiliyya-style poetry to the weakened Badi style, creating stately odes worthy of the caliphs of a great empire. …
