Izu Hakone Railway

Japanese: 伊豆箱根鉄道 - いずはこねてつどう

A private railway company engaged in transportation, tourism, and real estate businesses mainly in the Hakone and Izu regions. Part of the Seibu Group. Formerly known as the Zuso Railway, founded in 1898, and the Sunzu Electric Railway, founded in 1906, the company was established in 1916 as Sunzu Railway. In 1928, it merged with Nagaoka Motor Vehicle and Kona Motor Vehicle to enter the automobile business. In 1932, it opened the Tokuni Motorway, laying the foundations for the Hakone-Izu tourist route. In 1938, it merged with Hakone Yusen and changed its name to Sunzu Railway Hakone Yusen. In 1940, it changed its name to Sunzu Railway. It merged with Daiyuzan Railway in 1941, Yugawara Motor Vehicle in 1943, and Izu Kaiun Kisen in 1954. It changed its name to its current name in 1957. It opened the Shimoda Prince Hotel in 1973, and the Matsuzaki Prince Hotel in 1986. In 2004, the company's shares were delisted due to false statements in its securities report. In 2005, it became a subsidiary of Seibu Railway and attempted to restructure its business. In 2006, it became part of Seibu Holdings along with Seibu Railway.

主として箱根・伊豆地方で運輸・観光・不動産業を展開する私鉄会社。西武グループ。1898年創業の豆相鉄道と 1906年創業の駿豆電気鉄道を前身に，1916年駿豆鉄道として設立。1928年長岡自動車，古奈自動車を合併し自動車事業に進出。1932年十国自動車専用道路を開通させ，箱根・伊豆観光ルートの基盤を築く。1938年箱根遊船を合併し駿豆鉄道箱根遊船に社名を変更。1940年駿豆鉄道に社名を変更。1941年大雄山鉄道，1943年湯河原自動車，1954年伊豆海運汽船を合併。1957年現社名に変更。1973年下田プリンスホテル，1986年松崎プリンスホテルを開業。2004年有価証券報告書虚偽記載により株式の上場廃止処分を受ける。2005年西武鉄道の子会社となり経営再建をはかる。2006年西武鉄道とともに西武ホールディングス傘下に入った。
