Japanese: ヨシガモ(葭鴨) - ヨシガモ（英語表記）falcated teal

A bird of the Anatidae family (illustration). It breeds in southeastern Siberia, Primorsky Krai, and northeastern China, and migrates to China and Southeast Asia in winter. It migrates to Japan as a winter bird, and inhabits calm seas, lakes, and rivers from central Honshu southward. It also breeds in Hokkaido. Total length is about 48 cm. Males have a tufted crest on the back of their head, and their heads shine green and copper. The throat is white with a black collar, and the back and chest have fine white and black patterns. The tertiary flight feathers are long and sickle-shaped, hanging down like hackles.

カモ目カモ科の鳥（イラスト）。シベリア南東部，沿海州，中国東北部で繁殖し，冬季は中国や東南アジアに渡る。日本には冬鳥として渡来し，本州中部以南の波静かな海上や湖沼，河川などに生息する。また北海道で繁殖している。全長約48cm。雄は後頭に房状の冠羽があり，頭部は緑色と銅色にひかる。のどは白く，黒色のくび輪をもち，背と胸は白と黒の細かい模様がある。三列風切は長くのびて鎌状に湾曲し，みの毛のように下にたれ下がる。
