A former town in Shima County, eastern Mie Prefecture. The main settlement is at the mouth of Ago Bay, and is a base for deep-sea fishing. Seafood processing and pearl farming are also thriving. The coastal scenery is beautiful and the town is part of the Ise-Shima National Park. In October 2004, it merged with the towns of Daio, Shima, Ago, and Isobe in Shima County to form Shima City. 27.64 km2 . 5,947 people (2003). 三重県東部,志摩郡の旧町。主集落は英虞(あご)湾の湾口にあり,遠洋漁業基地で,水産加工,真珠養殖も盛ん。海岸の景色がすぐれ伊勢志摩国立公園に属する。2004年10月志摩郡大王町,志摩町,阿児町,磯部町と合併し,志摩市となる。27.64km2。5947人(2003)。
