A former town in Shima County, eastern Mie Prefecture. The main settlement is at the mouth of Ago Bay, and is a base for deep-sea fishing. Seafood processing and pearl farming are also thriving. The coastal scenery is beautiful and the town is part of the Ise-Shima National Park. In October 2004, it merged with the towns of Daio, Shima, Ago, and Isobe in Shima County to form Shima City. 27.64 km2 . 5,947 people (2003).
