A carnivorous animal with abnormally long limbs and a fox-like face, this animal belongs to the Canidae family (illustration). It is found in central and eastern Brazil, eastern Bolivia, Paraguay, northern Argentina, and Uruguay. It has a body length of 125-132 cm, tail length of 28-41 cm, shoulder height of 74-85 cm, and weight of 20-23 kg. It has the longest limbs of any animal in the Canidae family, large triangular ears, and a slender snout. Its body hair is long and orange, with a mane of long black hair growing along the midline from its head to its shoulders. It lives alone in pampas grasslands and wetlands such as the edges of forests, and is active from dusk until early morning.

顔つきがキツネに似た四肢の異常に長い食肉類でイヌ科に属する（イラスト）。ブラジル中･東部，ボリビア東部，パラグアイ，アルゼンチン北部，ウルグアイに分布する。体長125～132cm，尾長28～41cm，肩高74～85cm，体重20～23kg。イヌ科動物中，もっとも四肢が長く，耳は三角形で大きく，吻（ふん）が細長い。体毛は長く橙色で，頭から肩にかけての正中線に黒色の長毛がたてがみ状に生える。森林の縁などの草原パンパ，湿地に1頭ですみ，夕方から早朝まで活動する。
