Shuchin - Shuchin

Japanese: 繻珍 - しゅちん
Shuchin - Shuchin
Also written as shuchin, this is a type of woven fabric with a pattern woven into a satin weave. It was formerly written as shichisai, as the pattern is created using seven or more colored weft threads in a satin or twill weave. Chinese techniques began to be adopted at the end of the Muromachi period, and it was highly valued especially in the early Edo period and was given as a gift by upper class people. It is used for maru obi and haori linings.
