〘名〙① (古くは「ほんぜつ」とも) 根拠となる確かな説。典拠。ほんぜち。※山槐記‐治承三年（1179）六月二二日「仍問由緒、申立本説不知」② 和歌・連歌・謡曲などを作るとき、よりどころとする物語・詩・故事などの本文。※連理秘抄（1349）「本説大略本歌におなじ。三句に及ぶべからず。詩の心・物語、又俗にいひつけたる事も寄合にはなる也」③ 話題にしている、この説。
