…British historian. Born in London. Educated at St. Paul's College and Oxford University, he became Headmaster of Westminster College in 1593 and Earl of Arms in 1597. Based on materials he had collected through travels from 1571 onwards, he wrote the Latin octavo edition of the British geography book Britannia in 1586. As a treasure trove of historical facts, it went through many editions, and from the sixth edition in 1607 it was expanded into a folio edition, and in 1610 it was translated into English.
