Ishikuni Station appears in the Engishiki as a station in Suo Province, and it has been a key location on the Sanyo Road since ancient times. Ishikuni Manor appears in the Suo Province Ishikuni Manor Tadanito Jusensho (Nosaka Family Documents) from 1237 (Kasei 3), and in 1302 (Kengen 1) it was the royal estate of Emperor Go-Horikawa's daughter, Muromachi-in Teruko. It was passed down to the Jimyoin line, but came under the control of the Ouchi clan after the Nanboku-cho period.
