Tatsuta River

Japanese:
Tatsuta River

A river that flows through northwestern Nara Prefecture. It is about 15 kilometers long. It flows south through the Ikoma Valley between the Ikoma Mountains and the Yata Hills, and merges with the Yamato River in Ikaruga Town, Ikoma County. The upper reaches of the river are called the Ikoma River, and the lower reaches are called the Tatsuta River. Both banks of the river in the Tatsuta area of Ikaruga Town are known as a famous spot for maple trees, and are designated as the Prefectural Yata Nature Park. The autumn leaves for a few hundred meters around the Tatsuta Bridge are particularly beautiful and picturesque. There are many utamakura sites along the coast, such as Mimuroyama and Iwase-no-mori. The Tatsuta River in ancient songs is also thought to refer to the main stream of the Yamato River downstream from Oji Town.
