Tatsuta Shrine

Japanese: 竜田大社 - たつたたいしゃ
Tatsuta Shrine
Located in Misato-cho, Nara Prefecture. Formerly a government-sponsored grand shrine. It enshrines Ame-no-Mikoto and his wife, Kuni-no-Mikoto. During the reign of Emperor Sujin, it was worshipped as Tatsuta-fujin. It is a famous grand shrine listed in the Engishiki. The annual festival (Taki-matsuri) is held on April 4th, but the Wind-Stopping Festival on July 4th is said to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Tenmu, and is visited by many worshippers. Tatsuta Shrine near Horyuji Temple is a sub-shrine.

奈良県三郷町に鎮座。旧官幣大社。天御柱(あめのみはしら)命とその妃国御柱命をまつる。崇神天皇の時,竜田風神としてまつられたという。延喜式内の名神大社。例祭(滝祭)は4月4日であるが,7月4日の風鎮祭は天武朝の創始といい,多くの参拝者がある。法隆寺の近くの竜田神社は摂社。
