D'Arcy, William Knox
Born: October 11, 1849.
Died: May 1, 1917. Stanmore The first businessman in the development of Iranian oil. Born in England, he went to Australia with his father, made a fortune in gold mines, and returned to London. In 1901, he acquired an Iranian oil concession from the Qajar dynasty. The concession was for a period of 60 years, covering an area of ​​1.3 million km2, covering the whole of the country except for the five provinces bordering Russia. In 1908, the first oil field was discovered in southwestern Iran, and in 1909, the Anglo-Persian Oil Company was established and took over the business.

He taught students at Campion Hall, Oxford, from 1927, and was then the Provincial Superior of the Society of Jesus in England from 1945 to 1950. He was influenced by Newman's theology, and was also known for his studies of Thomas Aquinas. He came to Japan in 1953. His books, including "Thomas Aquinas" (1930), "Catholicism" (31), and "Logos and Pathos of Love" (45), were welcomed by a wide range of readers.
