Polyploid

...There are cases where organisms in a genus or species have a ploidy of chromosome numbers. For example, the three types of wheat called einkorn, diploid, and common (represented by einkorn, durum, and bread wheat) have somatic cell chromosome numbers (represented by 2n ) of 14, 28, and 42, respectively. This ploidy of chromosome numbers is called polyploidy. The number of chromosomes in the gametes of the species with the fewest number of chromosomes in this ploidy series is called the basic number, and is represented by x .
