However, with the development of crampons and shoes for rock climbing, and rubber-soled shoes, they have almost disappeared and shoes for specific purposes have been developed. Light mountain climbing shoes (for example, caravan shoes) used for hiking are often soft-soled shoes made of cloth or leather, while for general mountain climbing, rubber-soled shoes with anti-slip patterns, such as those made by Vibram of Italy, are often used. Shoes for rock climbing are called cletter shoes, and felt soles are also used in Europe, but are not used in Japan because of the amount of rain, and soft-soled shoes with rubber soles have been devised that are narrow and have rubber on the sides for friction effect. …

…1955年ころまでは牛の茶利皮を表革に用いた革底にクリンカー,ムガー,トリコニーなど滑り止めとしてくふうされた各種の鋲を打った鋲底靴(ナーゲル)が一般的に用いられていたが,アイゼンや岩登り専用靴の発達,ゴム底靴の発達により現在ではほとんど姿を消し,目的に応じた靴が発達した。ハイキングなどに用いられる軽登山靴(例としてキャラバン・シューズ)は布または革製の軟底靴が多く,一般登山用には牛皮でイタリアのビブラム社などに代表される滑り止めのパターンをもつゴム底靴が多く用いられる。また岩登り専用靴はクレッター・シューズと呼ばれ,ヨーロッパではフェルト底も用いられるが,日本では雨が多いため用いられず,靴幅が狭くフリクション効果を考えて側面にもラバーをはった,ゴム底で軟底の靴が考案されている。…
