It belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Mammalidae, and its larvae are known as pests of persimmons. They appear twice a year, with the first larvae appearing in June and July, and the second in late July to early October. They mainly enter the fruit from the stalk and make holes in it, causing it to fall off. They may also damage buds. They overwinter as mature larvae and pupate the following spring. They are also known as persimmon moths. The adult is a small species with a wingspan of about 1.7 cm, and both the body and wings are shiny black, but the head is yellow and the forewings have a yellow band. They are found in Taiwan, central China, Sri Lanka, and Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu in Japan, and often fly to lights.

鱗翅目マイコガ科に属し，幼虫がカキの害虫として知られている。年2回の発生で，第1回目の幼虫は6～7月，第2回目は7月末から10月初めに出る。おもにへたから侵入して果実に穴を開けて食入し，落果の原因となる。芽に加害することもある。老熟幼虫で越冬し，翌春蛹化（ようか）する。カキミガという別名もある。成虫は翅の開張1.7cmくらいの小型種で，体翅とも黒く光沢があるが，頭部は黄色，前翅に黄色帯がある。台湾，中国中部，スリランカ，日本の本州，四国，九州に分布し，よく灯火に飛来する。
