It belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Mammalidae, and its larvae are known as pests of persimmons. They appear twice a year, with the first larvae appearing in June and July, and the second in late July to early October. They mainly enter the fruit from the stalk and make holes in it, causing it to fall off. They may also damage buds. They overwinter as mature larvae and pupate the following spring. They are also known as persimmon moths. The adult is a small species with a wingspan of about 1.7 cm, and both the body and wings are shiny black, but the head is yellow and the forewings have a yellow band. They are found in Taiwan, central China, Sri Lanka, and Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu in Japan, and often fly to lights. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
