This is a seven-volume picture scroll that tells various miraculous tales about the history of Ishiyama-dera Temple in Omi Province, from its foundation to the temple's history. It begins with the story of how the monk Roben founded Ishiyama-dera Temple with Nyoirin Kannon as its principal image, and ends with the story of Emperor Godaigo donating a manor to Ishiyama-dera Temple when he ascended to the throne. The seven volumes are not a single work, but are divided into four categories, with different artists and production periods. It is said that volumes 1 to 3 were created by Takashina Takakane during the Shochu era (1324-1326), volume 4 by Tosa Mitsunobu in 1497 (Meio 6), and volume 5 by Awataguchi Takamitsu (first half of the 15th century), but none of these are certain. Volumes 6 and 7 were newly copied by Tani Buncho in 1805 (Bunka 2) during the Edo period by order of Matsudaira Sadanobu. They were produced in the Kamakura, Muromachi and Edo periods, but it is believed that they were successively added in later generations because volumes 4 and onwards were lost for some reason. Of these, the original volumes 1 to 3 display beautiful, gentle and elegant scenes, typical of Yamato-e painting from the late Kamakura period. Owned by Ishiyama-dera Temple, Shiga Prefecture.
