A town in Yazu County in the southeastern part of Tottori Prefecture. It borders Okayama Prefecture and occupies the upper reaches of the Sendai River. Chizu, in the center of the town, was a post town during the feudal era, and is one of the leading forestry and lumber towns in the Sanin region, with many cedar plantations in the surrounding area. The town is served by the Inbi Line, Chizu Express, and Tottori Expressway. Mount Nagi, on the border with Okayama Prefecture, is part of Hyonosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park. 鳥取県南東部,八頭(やず)郡の町。岡山県に接し,千代(せんだい)川上流域を占める。中心の智頭は藩政時代の宿場町で,林業と製材業は山陰有数,付近はスギの造林が多い。因美線,智頭急行,鳥取自動車道が通じる。岡山県境の那岐山(なぎさん)は氷ノ山後山那岐山(ひょうのせんうしろやまなぎさん)国定公園に属する。224.70km2。7718人(2010)。
