Japanese: フタオチョウ(双尾蝶) - フタオチョウ（英語表記）Polyura eudamippus

An insect of the Nymphalidae family in the Lepidoptera order. It is found in areas from northern India to the Malay Peninsula and western China, and in Japan it is endemic to the central and northern parts of Okinawa Island. It is a rather large butterfly with a span of 7-8cm. Its Japanese name comes from the two tail-like protrusions on its hind wings. Its wings are pale yellow with black markings, and the undersides are beautiful with a silvery-white luster. Females are slightly larger than males, and have rounded wings. Overwintering pupae emerge from the end of March to April, and emerge three times a year, from June to July and from September to October, but sometimes emerge twice a year.

鱗翅目タテハチョウ科の昆虫。インド北部からマレー半島，中国西部などに分布し，日本では沖縄本島中部以北の特産。やや大型のチョウで開張は7～8cm。和名は後翅に2本の尾状突起があることによる。翅は淡黄色の地に黒い斑紋があり，裏面には銀白色の光沢があって美しい。雌は雄よりやや大型，翅が丸みを帯びる。3月末から4月にかけて越冬さなぎが羽化し，さらに6～7月，9～10月と年3回発生するが，年2回の場合もある。
