[Conditions for thermonuclear fusion plasma]
To cause thermonuclear fusion, plasma must be confined and heated from the outside until it reaches a sufficiently high temperature. The ratio Q _f of the energy released by the reaction to the energy required for it is called the fusion gain, and if the plasma is in a self-heating state due to the reaction products, external heating is unnecessary and Q _f = ∞. Generally, if Q _f > 1, it qualifies as an energy source, but considering various losses, it can only be considered a practical energy source when Q _f ≿ 10.
