Takayama basin

A basin along the Miyagawa River, which flows north through the central part of the Hida region in the northern part of Gifu Prefecture. The altitude is about 600 meters. It is cool and comfortable in the summer. To the east, you can see the majestic mountains of the Northern Alps, including Mt. Norikura. Takayama City is in the center, and it has been cultivated for culture since early times, with an attractive traditional culture having developed, the townscape of the Edo period being preserved, and the skills of Hida craftsmen being passed down to the present day. The JR Takayama Main Line, National Route 41 connecting Nagoya and Toyama, and National Route 158 between Fukui and Matsumoto pass through the area.

岐阜県の北部、飛騨(ひだ)地方の中央部を北流する宮川に沿って開ける盆地。標高約600メートル。夏は涼しく、しのぎやすい。東方には乗鞍(のりくら)岳をはじめ、北アルプスの雄大な山々が遠望される。中心は高山市で、早くから文化が開け、魅力のある伝統文化が形成され、江戸時代の町並みも保存され、また飛騨の工匠の技能は現代にも継承されている。JR高山本線、名古屋と富山を結ぶ国道41号や福井―松本間の国道158号が通じる。
