An operation to separate powder or granular materials by particle size using methods such as sieving or classification. By size separation, raw materials are separated into coarse and fine products. The particle size of the particles that are equally separated into the two products is called the separation size. Except for special cases, sieving is an operation suitable for separation sizes of several tens of micrometers or more, while classification is an operation suitable for separation sizes of several hundred and several tens of micrometers or less.
