Meister Francke
Born: circa 1380/1390, Hamburg
German painter, died 1430. It is confirmed that he was active mainly in Hamburg from 1400 to 1425. He showed a strong individuality and influenced subsequent altarpieces in North Germany. His works include the St. Thomas à Becket Altarpiece (1424, fragment, Hamburg Art Museum). Although it is not certain, the St. Barbara Altarpiece (20-25, Finnish National Gallery) is also thought to be his work.

[Died] August 5, 1946. Berlin. A German scholar of Oriental history. Well-known as a researcher of China. He worked at the German embassy in Beijing from a young age, and was stationed in various parts of China as a consul (1888-1901). He became a professor at the University of Hamburg in 1919, and at the University of Berlin in 1923. His main work was Geschichte des chinesischen Reiches (History of the Chinese Empire) (5 volumes, 30-52).

[Died] June 8, 1727, Halle German Pietist and educator. Studied in Erfurt, Kiel, etc. Influenced by P. Spener, he founded a Bible school while teaching at Leipzig University. From 1692, he was a professor at Halle University and a pastor, teaching Oriental languages ​​and theology for the rest of his life, and Halle became the center of Pietism. He founded a school for the poor and various other facilities in the city.
