A town in Koyu County in central Miyazaki Prefecture. It occupies the mouth of the Omaru River and faces the Hyuga Nada Sea. The main settlement developed as a castle town for the Akizuki clan, and is served by the Nippon Main Line and the Higashi Kyushu Expressway. Field farming is thriving, and livestock farming and greenhouse horticulture are also carried out. There are factories producing shochu, fertilizer, spinning, etc. The town is home to the Mochida Tomb Group (historic site). Area 43.80 km2 . Population 21,733 (2010).
