A town in Koyu County in central Miyazaki Prefecture. It occupies the mouth of the Omaru River and faces the Hyuga Nada Sea. The main settlement developed as a castle town for the Akizuki clan, and is served by the Nippon Main Line and the Higashi Kyushu Expressway. Field farming is thriving, and livestock farming and greenhouse horticulture are also carried out. There are factories producing shochu, fertilizer, spinning, etc. The town is home to the Mochida Tomb Group (historic site). Area 43.80 km2 . Population 21,733 (2010). 宮崎県中部，児湯(こゆ)郡の町。小丸(おまる)川河口部を占め，日向灘(ひゅうがなだ)に臨む。主集落は秋月氏の城下町として発達，日豊(にっぽう)本線，東九州自動車道が通じる。畑作が盛んで，畜産，施設園芸も行う。焼酎，肥料，紡績などの工場がある。持田古墳群（史跡）がある。43.80km2。２万1733人（2010）。
